About Protein Hunter

Protein Hunter is a free protein and nutrition tool. It answers one question in as many useful ways as possible: how much protein is in what you are about to eat, and how close that gets you to what you actually need.

What it does

  • A searchable database of 232 foods with protein and calories per 100g.
  • An AI calculator that turns a plain description of a meal into protein and calories.
  • Meal Scan, which estimates the same numbers from a photo of a plate or a label.
  • Hunter Chef, which builds high-protein recipes to a macro target.
  • A daily protein and calorie log, and an AI nutritionist consultation.
  • 205 free public guides covering foods, meals, diets and protein targets.

Where the numbers come from

Every protein and calorie value on this site comes from one internal food database, compiled from public food-composition reference values and standard published nutrient data for each food. The guides, the calculator, the scanner and the recipe generator all read from that same source, which is why a number never changes depending on which page you are reading.

Values are stated per 100g of the food as described — cooked where the name says cooked, dry where it says dry. That distinction is the single largest source of error in protein tracking, so it is always spelled out.

How the AI features work

The AI features identify foods and portions from what you type or photograph, then apply the database values to those portions. For recipes, the macros are calculated from the ingredient list rather than estimated by the model, and a recipe that cannot mathematically hit the requested target reports its real values instead of inventing them.

Estimates from a photo or a plain-language description are estimates. For most real-world goals, being within about 10% consistently matters far more than being exact once.

Who is behind it

Protein Hunter is built and operated by Georges Kamal Issa. Questions, corrections and data challenges are welcome — see the contact page. If you spot a value you believe is wrong, tell us and we will check the source.

Not medical advice

Protein Hunter provides general nutrition information and educational tools. It is not medical advice, diagnosis or treatment. If you have a medical condition — including kidney disease, diabetes or an eating disorder — talk to a qualified healthcare professional before changing your diet.
