High Protein Recipes

Most recipe sites tell you a dish is high in protein. Protein Hunter calculates it from the ingredients you actually use, so the number on the page matches the plate in front of you.

Why recipe protein numbers are often wrong

Published recipe macros are usually estimates, sometimes generated without weighing anything. Cooking also changes weight: meat loses water, grains absorb it, so a recipe's per-100g protein shifts depending on how it is cooked.

Hunter Chef works the other way around. It builds the ingredient list first, sums the protein and calories from a fixed ingredient database, models cooking yield, and then adjusts the recipe if the target is missed. If a target is not physically achievable, it says so instead of inventing a number.

Swaps that raise a recipe's protein

Each of these adds protein without changing what the dish is.

  • Greek yogurt in place of sour cream or mayonnaise.
  • Red lentils cooked into a tomato sauce — they disappear.
  • Cottage cheese blended into a pasta sauce instead of cream.
  • Half the pasta replaced with edamame or lentil pasta.
  • Seitan or tempeh in place of half the mushrooms in a stew.
  • Egg whites folded into pancake or waffle batter.

Common questions

How do I make a recipe hit an exact protein target?

Fix the anchor protein weight first, then adjust the carbohydrate portion. In Hunter Chef you state the target and it adjusts the ingredient amounts for you.

Can a recipe have 50g of protein per 100g?

Almost never for a cooked dish. Whole foods top out around 30g per 100g, so a per-100g figure that high requires concentrated protein powder or dried meat.

Do the recipes include calories?

Yes — protein, calories and the per-100g density are calculated for every generated recipe.

What is Protein Hunter?

Protein Hunter is a protein and nutrition app with a database of 232 foods — from a leaf of kale to a wagyu steak — plus AI tools that answer protein questions, count a whole meal, build recipes to a macro target, and track what you actually eat.

  • Search any food
  • Count a full meal
  • Recipes to your macros
  • Scan a plate or label

Why it's different: the numbers are calculated from a fixed ingredient database rather than guessed, and when a target is not physically achievable the app says so instead of inventing a figure.
